KAP celebrates 39th Annual General Meeting

Keystone Agricultural Producers (KAP) met to host its 39th annual meeting on January 24 and 25, 2023, at the Delta Hotels Winnipeg. Delegates elected a new executive team, with Kevin Stott joining Jake Ayre as Vice Presidents, and KAP’s first female President, Jill Verwey.

“I want to thank our delegates from across the province for attending the 2023 AGM this week to connect with each other, listen to engaging panels focused the most pressing issues for our sector, and for putting their faith in me to lead our organization into the future as we look to tackle the challenges ahead of us,” said Jill Verwey, KAP President.

Panels focused on environmental stewardship, sustainability, public trust, and more. Speakers included Manitoba farmers, alongside national experts in food security, sustainability, soil science, leadership and public policy, former federal Cabinet Minister, the Hon. Ted Menzies, and a keynote address from world renowned leadership expert, Jeff Barnes.

“I was proud of the panelists from across Canada we were able to attract for this week’s events,” said Brenna Mahoney, KAP General Manager. “This shows the scale of which Manitoba farmers impact our industry on a national scale, and we truly believe the conversations that took place, alongside updates from our team and key stakeholders, provided significant value to our membership.”

As part of the AGM, delegates were able to engage with each other and passed seven resolutions on a variety of topics, including data collection, government transparency, and a call for the investment in more technologies to encourage a higher uptake in beneficial management practices on-farm.

“As a grassroots organization, KAP’s focus has and will always be ensuring the voice of our members and issues that matter most to them are where we focus our advocacy efforts,” said Verwey. “I am excited about the future of our organization and look forward to working with our new executive, board, and staff.”
