KAP identifies priorities of agriculture for 2019 provincial election

Keystone Agricultural Producers, the voice of farmers in Manitoba, will be advocating for the major issues that face the agriculture industry during the upcoming provincial election campaign, president Bill Campbell announced today. According to information from the provincial government, the agriculture sector represents over $6 billion to the Manitoba economy and creates over 35,000 jobs across the province.

“The investment that the agriculture sector makes in the Manitoba economy starts with the investment farmers make on their land, and the next provincial government needs to recognize that income on these investments is getting smaller,” Campbell said. “The next provincial government needs to come to the table with a real plan for the agriculture sector so that providing a cost-effective food source remains a financial success for Manitoba farmers.”

During the provincial campaign, KAP intends to advocate on behalf of farmers on three major policy issues: equitable education funding for Manitoba’s children, effective climate change programming, and enhanced infrastructure spending. A survey focused on these three key issues will be delivered to the four major parties and responses will be shared with both KAP members and the general public.

“A provincial election provides a great opportunity for both farmers and people not involved in our industry to ask those running for office about their priorities when it comes to agriculture,” Campbell added.

Additional information about the three policy areas KAP will be advocating for will be made available in the coming days.
