The Government of Manitoba has recently decided to move forward with adopting the 2020 National Building Code into its provincial building code.

KAP has worked alongside other livestock groups in Manitoba in asking the Government of Manitoba to fully exempt farm buildings from the provincial building code. We will continue to work with the province in finding a viable solution.

Once implemented, the new code will negatively impact Manitoba livestock producers who rely on farm buildings to house their animals.

Manitoba is an anomaly amongst the prairie provinces since both Alberta and Saskatchewan exempt farm buildings from their building code. Livestock producers have concerns that the new Manitoba Building Code will lead to higher construction costs and make the province less competitive compared to other prairie provinces.
