Resolved, that KAP, with assistance from the Canadian Federation of Agriculture, lobby the Government of Manitoba and the Government of Canada to create legislation that will guarantee a farmer’s right to repair the electronic components in farm machinery.
Update
In 2024, the federal government made amendments to the Copyright Act that allows farmers and independent repair shops the right to repair. Another amendment involving interoperability ensures compatibility between devices and software. KAP will continue to advocate for the right to repair in provincial legislation.
