Inter-Provincial Trade of Provincially Inspected Meat

Resolved, that KAP lobby Manitoba Agriculture and Resource Development, Canadian Federation of Agriculture, Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada to allow for inter-provincial meat trade with provincially inspected meat.

Update

In May 2020, the CFIA implemented a Ministerial Exemption (ME) process to address potential meat shortages caused by COVID-19 disruptions. This allowed provincially inspected meat and poultry products to be traded across provincial borders if federally licensed facilities were unable to meet demand. The Free Trade and Labour Mobility in Canada Act exempts the Safe Food for Canadians Act. Restrictions remain in place for provincially inspected meat.
